Year 5
Year 5
Welcome to the Year 5 Class page. We are thrilled to welcome the children back to school ready for a fantastic new school year. Here, you will find all the information you need to know about what we will be doing in Year 5 this term.
Remember: it's really important to be at school every day, on time and ready to learn.
Year 5 marks the beginning for Upper Key Stage 2, which means that they are nearing the end of their primary school journey! There is so much to look forward to this year: an exciting new curriculum, opportunities to explore our local community and lots practical learning opportunities.
We will be doing our best to consolidate their learning from Year 4, and to establish any gaps that they may have - which we will work to close. Daily repetition of key skills will be vital. As a result, our curriculum will be fluid, to ensure your children become confident, resilient and independent learners.
Please make sure that your child wears their full PE kit on these days so that they can engage fully in their lesson.
In year 5 we promote reading for pleasure and aim to offer our children a wide range of exciting, recent children's literature. It is essential that children read at home too, either to you or independently at least five times per week. Regular reading can have a great impact on children's learning and confidence across the curriculum. This year, children will receive books to read at their assessed reading level from school for the week. Although your child may read independently, please continue to sign their record to show they have read or the children can write in their reading record to inform the staff what they think about their book.
Our children are set Sumdog home learning each week on a Monday. Your child can find their home learning on the homepage once they have signed in using their school login. For more information on using Sumdog please message via Dojo or speak with one of the class teachers.
Additionally, children in Year 5 are set weekly spellings. To support your children, you can encourage them to practise their spelling list before their weekly test on Monday.
Please see the attached documents below for a summary of our learning across the curriculum. For more information on your child's learning this term, please speak to the class teachers.
We are really looking forward to having you in Year 5 and most of all, having fun!
